Breaking In and Breaking Down Not the Same as Founding
There is a big difference between how this country was founded by immigrants and how this existing country is currently being invaded by illegal immigrants. It’s as plain as the difference between a geographical area and a country. During debates on illegal immigration, it’s often brought up that the US was founded by immigrants. OK, if you’re simply referring to the first settlers, as opposed to those who framed the Constitution, most of whom were born in the colonies. It has diddly to do with the current problem of illegal immigration. “America” could mean a few different places, and cover different portions of those places. But the United States of America is a country. A sovereign nation. It is distinct, as clear as our laws against entering the US without proper documents and permission to do so. Those who come here illegally now are not doing it with the intent of founding the US, because that’s already been done. They’re not even doing it to embrace US ways, because they would first enter legally if that were the case.
It’s foolish to praise and welcome invaders as we praise our founding fathers and welcome legal immigrants.
